چکیده

Biochemical polymorphism has been widely discussed in connection with the function of many body systems (for review see Ogden, 1961). One expression of biochemical polymorphism which has been related to reproductive efficiency in cattle is the variation in serum transferrin type. Ashton (1959) considered that embryos differing in /?-globulin (transferrin) type from their dams were less compatible with their dams than those with the same type as their dams, and were therefore less likely to survive. Ashton & Fallón (1962) modified this theory in a report on data from five cow populations in Britain and Australia. It appeared that breeding efficiency was highest when mating took place between unlike homozygotes and was reduced progressively with mating between like homozygotes, homozygotes crossed with hétérozygotes and lowest with hétérozygotes crossed with hétérozygotes. They also considered that there was a different effect on fertilization and embryonic death in that matings between like homozygotes were considered more fertile than matings between unlike homozygotes while heterozygous embryos were considered more viable than homozygous ones. These hypotheses were based on field fertility data and blood grouping for bulls and cows. Gahne (1967) has summarized the results of these and other workers in a recent study of the influence of transferrin variation

Effect of prostaglandin F2α and GnRH administration at the time of artificial insemination on reproductive performance of dairy cows

The present study aimed to determine the effect of administrating prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and GnRH at the time of artificial insemination (AI) on the pregnancy per artificial insemination (P/AI) and the pregnancy survival rate of dairy cows. A number of 830 lactating Holstein cows were randomly divided into four groups. Cows in group 1 (n=200) treated with 150 µg d-cloprostenol. In group 2 (n...

Production characters of first generation cows of a five-breed diallel: reproduction of mature cows and preweaning performance of calves by two third-breed sires.

The fourth through sixth parity of 5- to 10-yr-old cows were used to evaluate trade-offs involved with sires of large mature size vs medium mature size in a terminal sire crossbreeding program and to characterize five breeds and their crosses for their potential as dam lines. Charolais and Red Poll bulls, representing large (L) and medium (M) mature size, respectively, were mated to cows repres...

Prevalence of Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus antibodies and antigen among the aborted cows in industrial dairy cattle herds in Mashhad area of Iran

The measurement of antibody responses of animals exposed to BVDV either through a natural exposure or an immunization protocol is still a standard procedure. For BVDV, the test formats have been largely limited to ELISA which is a valuable diagnostic test to measure the level of BVDV specific antibodies as well as antigen in blood samples. In the present study, 120 blood samples were collected ...

The effect of embryonic death rates in cattle on the efficacy of estrus synchronization programs.

Reproductive failure in inseminated cattle results from poor fertilization and embryo survival. Recent studies utilizing dairy and beef cattle indicate that fertilization rates are higher for nulliparous dairy and beef heifers and nonlactating beef cows than lactating beef and dairy cows and nonlactating dairy cows. Several factors affect fertilization rates, but the greatest impact was observe...

Embryonic development and growth performances of an endangered fish species Nandus nandus: effects of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids supplementation

The present study explored the embryonic and larval development of an endangered fish species Nandus nandus and resolved larval growth performances with the dietary supplementation of different types of lipids. Fertilized eggs were collected from fiber glass tanks immediately after spontaneous spawning of N. nandus, which were fed with a 1% phospholipid (squid meal) supplemented diet for 3 mont...
